Chelsea striker Timo Werner has been in good form since joining the club this summer.
Although he initially struggled to put the ball in the back of the net, his perseverance has paid off recently. Werner has now scored six goals in his last six games and looks to be getting back to his best.
His double from the spot against Rennes saw him join an elite list of scorers. According to the Express, the German is just the fifth player to score more than 40 goals since the start of last season.
Werner has now scored 41 goals in 56 appearances in all competitions. He joins the likes of Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, Lazio’s Ciro Immobile, Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo and former Chelsea man Romelu Lukaku.
The fact that the youngster could seamlessly carry over his prolific streak from Germany to England is testament to his ability. Werner now has seven goals and three assists in just 11 appearances for the Blues.
At just 24, his best years are ahead of him. He is only likely to get better and this means happy days for Chelsea.
Werner was also given the task of taking penalties over Jorginho against Rennes. He took both the opportunities with open arms. If he continues to be our de facto spot-kick taker, his numbers are only going to swell even further.
With Jorginho too appearing to be fine with the change of the guard, Werner could appear more often on the scoresheet from now.
Werner has been an excellent addition to the Chelsea attack. His ability to score and also link up with his teammates have been invaluable tools in Frank Lampard’s arsenal.
Hopefully, this is only the start.
