According to Sky Sports (h/t The Metro), Chelsea could be handed a boost in their efforts to sign West Ham United star Declan Rice.
The youngster has been on the club’s radar for some time. However, a deal could not be agreed in the summer and Rice stayed on with the Hammers.
The 21-year-old has since upped his game and is a key player for David Moyes’ side. His performances have also seen him star for Gareth Southgate’s England team.
Having established himself both for club and country, Rice is now keen to add trophies to his cabinet.
“I think it’s an important thing to win trophies.”
As a sportsman, he is well aware that his talents can only be utilized for a limited period of time. While still young, Rice believes there is no better time than now to start winning honours.
“I’m only 21 but to get those highs of your career you need to win stuff and that’s what I want to do.”
With all due respect to West Ham, the chances of Rice winning trophies with them is highly unlikely. He could definitely boost his chances if he makes the switch to Stamford Bridge.
The youngster was in our youth ranks before being released at the age of 14. He and Mason Mount are close friends who have also built up an excellent understanding of playing together.
Both players were on target as England defeated Iceland last week. The prospect of them repeating the same at Chelsea would be the stuff of dreams.
The rumours linking Rice to Chelsea refuse to go away. The Blues should put an end to it by signing him at the earliest opportunity.
The youngster has the best years of his career ahead of him. Given his ambition, he should play in a team that is on the same page as him. He will certainly be doing so at Chelsea.
