Barcelona submit a formal offer to Chelsea star Willian

According to Sky Sports, La Liga giants Barcelona have made a formal offer to sign Chelsea star Willian.

The 31-year-old will soon be out of contract, making him a free agent. Chelsea are keen to keep him and have also made an offer themselves.

Negotiations between the Blues and the player’s representatives are yet to reap benefits. Willian had recently rejected Chelsea’s offer of a two-year extension.

Willian has scored ten goals in 2019/20

He has no shortage of suitors, with the likes of Inter Miami, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and now Barcelona all keen.

Willian is looking for a three-year deal with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season. The player’s agent had confirmed that his client would make a call on his future after the FA Cup final against Arsenal on Saturday.

According to the report, Barcelona have offered Willian a deal stretching one year longer than the terms tabled by Frank Lampard’s side.

The Brazilian had earlier admitted he would like to stay on at Stamford Bridge. The only point of contention appears to be the length of the contract we have offered. However, given that he is already 31, the club’s hesitation is understandable.

The Brazilian has been a consistent performer for Chelsea

As of now, Inter Miami have made the biggest offer on the table. This will see the Brazilian move to the MLS side on a three-and-a-half-year deal.

The Samba star joined Chelsea in the summer of 2013. He has since been a regular fixture at the Bridge despite Lampard being the club’s fifth manager during that time.

Willian has enjoyed a successful stint in west London, winning two Premier League titles, a Europa League and the FA Cup. This tally will be further enhanced if the Blues triumph on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho is keen to bring Willian to Tottenham Hotspur

Time is running out for Chelsea to keep the player on for the foreseeable future. A vastly experienced player with hardly any injury concerns, it is clear why teams are lining up to take him for free.

Chelsea have had an influx of promising young players over the last few months. Developing youth is well and good but at times, they also need to be led by experienced heads who have the guile and knowhow to come out on top.
