According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea hero Ashley Cole has given his approval of Ben Chilwell joining the Blues.
The 23-year-old has signed for us on a five-year deal for a fee of £50million. It saw him become the club’s third high-profile signing of the summer, following in the footsteps of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
Seen as a priority target by Frank Lampard, his capture will strengthen what was effectively a worrisome position for us last season.
Chilwell’s arrival at the Bridge would lend credibility to Cole’s prophetic ability. The former English international had backed the 23-year-old to succeed at the Bridge back in December.
“He’s got the quality. For sure he’s good enough.”
Chilwell came through the Leicester City academy before going on to establish himself as one of the best in the league in his position.
Despite being just 23, he is an experienced player who has seen his stock rise in recent months. Capable of contributing to both the attack and the defence, he is an all-rounder who certainly packs a punch.
Chilwell made 123 appearances for Leicester in all competitions, 99 of them in the Premier League. The fact that he will reach the milestone 100th appearance in the Blue of Chelsea will be a memorable occasion. (h/t Evening Standard)
Hopefully, it will be a night to remember for all the right reasons.
The youngster can be an extremely key acquisition for Chelsea. With another weakness now addressed, Lampard’s Chelsea are on the right track to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City next season.
Cole is arguably the best left-back we have had at the club in the Premier League era.
They say greatness recognizes greatness. It could very well be the case in Cole’s assessment of our new signing.
