Not Ideal, But It Could Work For Chelsea Misfit

Around this time in the football calendar (when it’s not the World Cup) there are always conflicting reports everywhere discussing the future’s of players, managers and the youth as well. Those whose contracts are expiring will be battling to find an agreement with their current clubs for a new contract or are searching for a new home, perhaps in a different country. The players that feel as those their time is up at their current club are often caught between seeing how things pan out and looking at offers from other clubs.

Fernando Torres is one of those who has played quite a lot of football for Chelsea, but only because the Blues didn’t have a consistent striker to play every week. Demba Ba contributed on the occasion and it eventually transpired that Samuel Eto’o would be the man tasked with getting the goals. This would lead one to believe that Torres wouldn’t be part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for the 2014/2015 season, however, the Express are suggesting that the Spanish international will stay after all.

Torres didn’t exactly have a good season, despite receiving quite a bit of game time. He must’ve thought that his time at Chelsea would be up especially as Mourinho has all but confirmed Diego Costa. There are even new rumours every day linking the Blue Lions with strikers from all over the globe.

However, he’s set to be given a lifeline at the club. Despite all the criticism, this could work for the former Liverpool star. His new strike partner could well be the formidable Costa who have recently become international team mates after the Atletico Madrid star chose to link up with the Spanish national team rather than the Brazilian.

Perhaps with that link in attack, Torres could really benefit. The pressure will be heaved upon Costa to get the goals which takes the spotlight off of him. I personally think he can thrive when left to his own devices. Quietly rack up a decent tally of goals and his confidence could return. This will give Mourinho fantastic depth as he could have two strikers who can consistently score.
