Summer Already Complete For Chelsea, Why This Is Dangerous

Jose Mourinho is very good at getting deals done quickly, but I don’t think anyone would’ve thought he would move this quickly. Three players, in critical positions, may have been secured before the window has even opened. With the World Cup just a couple of weeks away, it would be advised that you get deals done fast to avoid other clubs realising the skill and then facing a fight for his signature.

The Express have reported that Chelsea are very close to obtaining the services of Tiago, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa. All three of them currently at Atletico Madrid. The team that knocked Chelsea out of the Champions League this season. Mourinho has a habit of buying players from teams that have got one over on him, or almost at least. Mohamed Salah, for example, tore apart Chelsea when he played for Basel. Now the trio from Madrid.

The idea of getting all your business done early, in principle, sounds very good. All wrapped up and ready to train with the team. However, it does have it shortcomings because what if something better comes along? Like getting married to an average person, but meeting a new person and realising they’re so much better. You don’t go have an affair, you attempt to cut ties and that ends in an ugly situation for all parties.

What if Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani or Zlatan Ibrahimovic suddenly became available. Diego Costa is good, brilliant this season, but this is the first time he’s really stood out amongst the rest. Maybe he was just a one-season wonder. It’s quite dangerous to put all your faith in one player before they go off to a footballing event because they can also pick up injuries. Then you’ve spent £30+ million on someone that won’t play for you for a couple of months.

It can happen at any time, but at a major event, it can have serious consequences. With the media ever present, a loss of form will cripple the player and his chances.

It is good to sign players quickly so they can integrate into the team, but you also have to be aware of the dangers and that’s exactly what this piece is informing you of.

  1. Before a player is acquired into a team, scouting is done and a decision is reached. There should be no regrets whatsoever. Injuries are normal occurances in sports and this should not make Chelsea be afraid of acquiring the trio.
However Chelsea should not concentrate only on players who gave them hell in their meetings before but look for potential players who can improve the team's performance, and who are long term achievers and legible in all competitions and not like it happened in the last transfer.
