Benitez wants three titles, but not the Prem…

Chelsea’s interim manager Rafael Benitez is by far the least popular man at Stamford Bridge and he might be a little more so after admitting his side can no longer lift the league title this season.

The European Champions trail leaders Manchester Unitedby 13 points prior to Sunday’s game at home against top of the table strugglers Arsenal and Benitez has written off the club’s title challenge for another season, “In terms of the league, I don’t think we can do it”.

Although Benitez has conceded the league title to either of the Manchester clubs, reigning champions Manchester City or current leaders Manchester United, he is aware there are still 3 trophies up for grabs, “But the Capital One Cup is there, the FA Cup is still open and the Europa League is still open.”

“I just have to give the team the confidence that we can win against anyone. If you have that belief it becomes easier.” Chelsea will certainly need confidence in the Capital One Cup if they are to overturn the 2-0 deficit to Swansea in the semi-final second leg.

Benitez can point to the return of Captain John Terry and Frank Lampard as a cause for optimism, “The team is very close. We have John Terry and Frank Lampard back from injury. Now we have to be more consistent.”

More consistency is what Chelsea fans will be hoping for, particularly at home as Benitez has only won 2 games in all competitions at Stamford bridge since he took over from Roberto Di Matteo.
