We’re In No Rush, Insists Gourlay

Despite Roberto Di Matteo’s heroic end to the season, Chelsea Chief Executive Ron Gourlay has insisted the club have no wish to rush the appointment of a new manager, casting fresh doubts whether Di Matteo will be given the job full time.

There is speculation that current Spurs boss Harry Redknapp might be in the frame for the role.

After an outstanding FA Cup and Champions League double, Di Matteo would’ve been wanting to snap the contract up a.s.a.p, as well as the large majority of the Blue faithful, who could not have wished for a better response to the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas.

Gourlay seemed to acknowledge the fans want for Di Matteo, but again stressed that there was no rush in deciding. He told Sky Sports News “He has done fantastically well and I’m very proud of him and what he has achieved. But we will stick with what we said and sit down and talk things through and work things out.”

There would no doubt be a fans backlash should The Blues not appoint RDM, but Roman Abramovich has definitely done stranger things whilst at the club.

If you want the best betting odds on the next manager, look no further than SkyBet, who seem to be doing some very nice prices on some of the favourites, that are shown below:

‘To take charge of the first game of the 2012/13 season’

Roberto Di Matteo – 4/9
Fabio Capello – 3/1
Harry Redknapp – 8/1
Pep Guardiola – 14/1
Rafa Benitez – 16/1

And for a bit of fun, you can even have Didier Drogba or Frank Lampard to be manager at 80/1. Unlikely.

So, will Di Matteo definitely get the job? Does he deserve it? If not, who do you want to see take over?
