Top Four. Are we in?

On the penultimate weekend of what's sure to be a thrilling end to the 2013/2014 EPL season, as far as the top 4 contest goes, it's still not absolutely certain who picks the 2 Champions League spots, but Chelsea's 'journey to the Holy Land in pursuit of the Holy Grail' is almost over as we need just one more win to secure our spot amongst 'the immortals'.

For Arsenal and Spurs, it's still all nerves for them with Spurs trailing the Gunners with just 1pt and their next games will be severely crucial in deciding their fates.

The Top Four Battle @AStamBridge2Far

Since I started watching the Premier League, not one season has gone without a unique, riveting ending. From last season's sensational finish, to the 09/10 season when Chelsea whipped Wigan 8-0 to secure the title, and also the relegation battle, defining moments for the struggling teams; it's always been a recurring epic end to the season. Surely this year will be the same.

As Man Utd have clinched their 20th title, the focus is firmly on the 'top four battle' with Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea vying for the remaining 2 spots.

The battle for the top four. Who wants it most?

As we head into Week 35 of this years campaign, another thrilling sets of matches are on offer as the jostle for Champions League spots heat up.

Prior to last weekends games, some league fixtures were played during the week and it had a bag of mixed results for two London teams who had games in hand. Arsenal was held to a scoreless draw by Everton, whilst a confident 3-0 at Fulham sent our confidence well up

Rediscovering that winning feeling.

It's been a tough time recently on our travels. Saturday 12th January, the start of Stoke City’s current demise, and our last road victory in the league. A worrying statistic, especially as our next two games come on the road, in the space of five days, and against teams with decent home records.

We are 7-3-5 on our travels this season, not terrible, but our last four in the league have seen us lose three and draw one. Although Everton’s point at Arsenal helped us out last night, I think we have to take four points from these two games if we want to secure Champions League football next season.

Chelsea lose ground in top four battle.

With just 7 games, 8 for some, left to be played in the EPL, several teams are beginning to scramble for those final undecided positions in the league. The EPL is coming to a crescendo, so sit tight and enjoy the madness that pops up the screens in the next few weeks.

For Man Utd, the league is all sewn up and any climax in that regard would be to the delight of their fans. They can start celebrating. There is also the relegation battle and in that mix is QPR, Wigan, Reading, A.Villa, Sunderland. It would be interesting to see how that pans out.

Why Chelsea will finish in the top four

The veil that masked Chelsea's previous campaign has again enveloped the club, bringing forecasts about how The Blues will end the season completely off course. In simple terms, there is a huge vacuum of uncertainty about how Chelsea will finish the season – Top Four? Or in tatters.

In spite of this ambiguity around the club and the beloved fans, I (of course predicting) still believe that Chelsea will end up clinching a spot in the Champions League, despite our erratic form.

AVB's Chelsea Obsession

Congratulations Andre Villas-Boas. Just moments after the ‘achievement’ of qualifying from the Europa League stages, knocking out the European giants of NK Maribor, and Panathinaikos, our former manager couldn’t resist talking about us in his post-match interview.

It is the fact that we have been awarded a Europa League spot that seems to have ruffled his feathers,  as he piped up saying “I think its extremely unfair” whilst sounding awfully like a disgruntled private school kid who had been told he couldn’t stay up to watch Match of the Day.

A View From The Bridge... Tottenham

It’s the big London derby tomorrow, as we come up against former boss Andre Villas-Boas, and his Tottenham team, who have won their last three games, and are sitting fifth in the table.

We must hope that this clash ends similar to our last away game, where we overturned Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates.

It Wasn't Alright On The Night

Fans of both Chelsea and Tottenham were lamenting a midday kick-off for their clash in the Premier League this weekend, especially as it coincided with the midweek World Cup qualifiers, where England travelled to Poland on Tuesday night, where both Ashley Cole, and Jermaine Defoe were named as starters.

So, three and a half days apart, not a catastrophe, although as the squad will have to travel back from Poland, it isn’t exactly an ideal scenario. So, imagine the faces of both Di Matteo and Villas-Boas as the scenes unravelled on Tuesday night. The ‘pitch’ resembling my back garden after a typical English winter (or summer nowadays) and the game was called off, until 4pm today

Has Andre Villas-Boas Gone Mad?

After a less than successful spell in charge of The Blues, AVB has set up camp down the road at White Hart Lane. A risky move at best, the Spurs fans have instantly warmed to him, and seem to have got on board his ideas.

Many top managers have had a poor spell at one club in their career, but after his failures at Stamford Bridge, he surely cannot afford to do it at consecutive clubs in the most prestigious league in the world.

Weekend Review

The battle for Champions League spots intensified tonight, as Newcastle leapfrogged Tottenham into 4th with their sixth win on the bounce, while Arsenal and Chelsea shared the spoils in the early kick-off, and Spurs carried on their awful form with a drab 1-0 defeat to relegation threatened QPR.

Five-Star Chelsea Book Return to Wembley

Didier Drogba ran the show today, as Chelsea completed a five-star rout over neighbours Tottenham, to set up a showcase final with Liverpool in the FA Cup Final.

The first half was extremely cagey, until the Ivorian hitman hit a wonder-strike minutes before the interval, to send Di Matteo's side in ahead.

From The Opposition Corner..

Chelsea take on a Tottenham team today in a semi-final clash at Wembley, that will mean much more than just a return trip. However, with both sides thrashing it out for remaining European spots, a victory here could be a huge psychological boost ahead of the remaining five games.
