“This guy has got something. I am telling you”- Ian Wright tells Chelsea fans to be patient with £30m signing who has ‘pace, touch, and link-up’

Ian Wright backs Nicolas Jackson, telling Chelsea fans to be patient with the £30 million signing, saying, “This guy has got something.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright backs Chelsea player Nicolas Jackson asking the fans to be patient as the Chelsea forward has been out of form recently. Wright believes that the Chelsea attacker needs some time to unleash his full potential.

The Senegal international has only scored 13 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions this season, which has been an issue for the Blues due to his wastefulness in front of goal.

The 22-year-old, who cost £30 million to go from Villarreal to Chelsea last summer, came under fire after blowing three clear opportunities in Chelsea’s FA Cup semifinal loss to Manchester City two weeks prior.

Wright believes Jackson has quality, pace, touch, and link-up and believes he can become a star in the coming seasons, even if he feels the player has to work on his finishing. The former Arsenal striker says in a podcast (h/t Metro):

“I’m seeing Nicolas Jackson by the way… I’ve got to mention him. I watched him fully again and I have watched him in the last three or four games and the chances that he has missed always take precedent when people are talking about him, but I am seeing that guy’s pace, his link, his touch.”

“Something is happening there. If he gets that goal scoring right there is something in there, I’m telling you. He did some brilliant stuff against Villa. I hope it can happen for him. I have seen flashes and if he has the energy and the personality for it, this guy has got something. I am telling you.”

Jackson scored his recent goal for Chelsea during the team’s thrilling 6-0 triumph against Everton. Since then, Mauricio Pochettino‘s team has drawn 2-2 with Aston Villa and lost to Manchester City and Arsenal.

Jackson hasn’t been able to contribute much to Chelsea’s major matches. His goal in the thrilling 4-4 draw with City and his hat-trick against a nine-man Tottenham squad have been the two big games where he has really punished the opponents.

With the transfer from his former club to Chelsea in July 2023, Jackson has not had much time to settle into the dynamics of the Blues, with this season being the first for Jackson. With time, the attacker might find his rhythm and improve.
