Nicolas Jackson stood up for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher in his recent Instagram story after midfielder’s viral video of ignoring black mascot
Chelsea star Conor Gallagher has come under massive scrutiny after the midfielder was seen ignoring a high-five from a black mascot after acknowledging a white mascot, leading to accusations online of racism towards the Blues captain.
The video went viral at a quick pace, which led to fans attacking the midfielder for being racist. With growing racist labels Chelsea player and manager decided to support the midfielder as teammate Nicolas Jackson shared a story on his Instagram of Gallagher with the same kid he ignored high-five from with a black and white hand-shaking emoji.
However, things escalated quickly which forced the Blues to release a statement on their official site, and even Mauricio Pochettino addressed the situation in his recent press conference ahead of the Manchester United game.
The Argentine manager backed Gallagher and blasted people for taking the video out of context, speaking to the press, he said via ESPN:
“That has upset me so much because no one wants to do something like this with this intention. He was so wary of too many videos, photographs, and pictures about whether he was really aware of both mascots. When you play football, when you are there and you are focusing on too many things, you focus on playing to start the game, which sometimes can happen.’’
Nicolas Jackson knew that Gallagher was being called racist for no unnecessary reason. He decided to stand up for his colleague who was receiving outrageous hate from the fans. To mitigate the animosity from the public, Jackson uploaded a picture of the same mascot that Gallagher overlooked while in the tunnel.
It’s clear that Gallagher shook hands with the other mascot and didn’t intend to ignore the other. In these situations, players try not to take their minds off the game. However, social media continues to grow and become more toxic, and people often make huge deals out of small things.

Gallagher never meant to ignore the mascot, Chelsea had to admit in a statement, which is absurd and ought to have been handled far more carefully and the club shouldn’t have involved themselves but the growing hate the midfielder received on his Instagram post forced the club release a statement.
