The Blues led 2-0 before trailing 3-2 to Manchester United as they chased an equalizer late into stoppage time. Diogo Dalot’s foul gave Palmer the opportunity to square the game from the penalty spot, and the 21-year-old converted his second spot kick of the night.

Some final instructions by the boss to Palmer

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino gave some final, clear instructions to Cole Palmer, warning him about the time left. This led to the star’s epic winner and his third goal of the night, just about 60 seconds after his second one.

Pochettino said after the match:

“So happy because I think we deserved to win. I think it was tough, but overall we were the better team. We started the game really well and the way we conceded affected the team in an emotional way.”

“I said ‘Cole, two minutes more and to believe’. The impact is amazing. He is doing a fantastic job, it is difficult to talk more about him. Today he showed the mentality and the quality.”

It is the little things like these in such moments that can suddenly fill you up with so much motivation that allows you to achieve even the unachievable. The boss’s level of trust and belief in the team at even the final moment certainly paid dividends.

A victory that the Blues needed more than ever

It has been a rough season for the Chelsea boss. Facing criticism from the fans due to the draw against 10-man Burnley, leading to many questions regarding his ability to make a difference at Stamford Bridge. The boss also admits that the club needed this win and he now feels relaxed as they are now building a connection with the fans.
