Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino takes blame on himself after 4-1 drubbing against Wolves
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has taken responsibility for his side’s 4-2 defeat to Wolver and feels the players and he need to accept that the current squad isn’t good enough. Their lack of experience was visible against Wolves and they were deservingly punished for that.
The defeat also put more emphasis on how this side reacted to midweek’s 4-1 defeat to Liverpool but appeared the players didn’t learn anything and once again succumbed to a similar loss.
What Pochettino said about the team’s performance at some point is reasonable because we are certainly not good enough as we cannot consistently win the matches. But he has blamed himself as well for the collapse.
It is frustrating now because we cannot blame the players or the manager. The board needs to take accountability for what projects it intends to make because there is a mixed feeling every time the club suffers defeat, (h/t Football. London) and Pochettino comments, saying:
“I think we are all not good enough. At the moment, this is the reality. Myself, also. What we are showing today is that we are not good enough. We didn’t manage the situation properly. No one can be safe, no? I don’t want to come here and say I’m the best. At the moment, we are not matching the history of the club; that is true. We need to accept and be critical. We will not give up.”
When we look at the squad, it’s very complicated, because what are our ambitions and how will we achieve them with this raw, young squad? He knows his side is too young, and for this season, they aren’t ready to deliver a positive outcome consistently. We don’t know if he is the right manager, but we will have to give him this season to see where he can take the team.
The most important thing we have to do is make changes to the board and maybe find a more experienced technical director to head the sporting directors because it’s hard to trust them with key decisions right now.

Pochettino is certainly good with youngsters, but he will need those players who will flourish under his approach. But what we’re seeing is that very few have excelled under him, and that’s concerning.
