Raheem Sterling can match epic Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho record if Chelsea beat Liverpool in EFL Cup final

Chelsea star Raheem Sterling will have a cup record in mind this Sunday

Chelsea star Raheem Sterling has a cup record in sight already.

The 29-year-old will be lining up against his former cup in the League Cup at Wembley on Sunday. While the Reds travelling from Merseyside will boo each of his touches, the English international will rather have a record title in his mind.

Wembley is essentially home to Raheem Sterling as his upbringing came just yards away from the stadium.

Raheem Sterling joined Chelsea from Manchester City in what was Todd Boehly’s first big-money signing. Chelsea signed the player from Manchester City in July 2022.

Raheem Sterling won all of his five league cups during his seven-year stint at Manchester City.

If Raheem Sterling wins his sixth League Cup on Sunday, he will equal the record for most Carabao Cup titles. His former teammates Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho have six Carabao Cup titles.

Liverpool are coming into the game as favourites. Sterling has to cause a big upset to the odds.

“It would be a massive achievement to do that. When you’ve had that taste for it, you always want more and this game will be the exact same thing. We’ve got a great test this week against Liverpool. It’s a good challenge against one of the most dominant teams in the last few years. For sure it would mean a lot to win that trophy again. I also think that first trophy would definitely build the belief for the group. If you win that one trophy it gives you that sniff, that feeling and you want more.”

Raheem Sterling joined Liverpool as a youngster back in 2010. He spent five years at Anfield Stadium. While at Liverpool, Sterling was voted the club’s Young Player of the Season in 2014 and 2015.

Sterling made a big money move to Manchester City that caught the headlines in 2015.

Raheem Sterling spoke about how “special” it is to play at the Wembley, speaking to Arab News he said: “That’s my home. I’m really looking forward to it. When I go to Wembley I get a different feeling, I can’t wait to get on the field.”
