Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino blasts media for taking his words out of context
Mauricio Pochettino has blasted the media for taking his words out of context in a previous press conference when the Argentine manager claimed his side is not good enough.
The former Southampton coach clarified and said his side are not good enough to be in the top four or six after the media twisted his words in the last press conference that they are not good enough in general.
Since we have been playing exceptionally poorly and inconsistently, we have fallen from ninth to 11th place in the Premier League, so this is a hard reality, and Pochettino is absolutely correct.
After the loss, the 51-year-old was met with plenty of questions, and in one of those, he replied that the club is not good enough currently, and this may have been taken out of context, but the Argentine clarified, (h/t Football.London), and said:
“Yes, I want to clarify because after I listen to more TV and media than before, someone takes my words out of context. That question came from my press conference after the Wolves, and the question was, ‘Are the players good enough to be in the top four or top six?’ I said, ‘Today, we were not good enough, and me the first’.
Pochettino is right.
In football, it’s become typical for the media to misrepresent you and distort your statements in order to make you appear unfavorable. They will mis construct your remarks and give you the impression that you are discouraging the players or the team, regardless of your relationship to them.
It’s good that the Argentine made an explanation since clubs and players pay attention to these comments, and misinterpretation can lead to tension between the manager and the player, which destabilizes the situation and damages the coach-player connection.
