As per Chelsea website, Mauricio Pochettino sent an open letter to Chelsea fans to show their support ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool. The Argentine will be hoping to win his first-ever trophy with Chelsea.
Pochettino also recalls his nation winning the 1978 World Cup final, beating the Netherlands 3-1. Pochettino played for his national team but didn’t continue for much longer, as he started his career in 1999 and quit in 2002.
The Argentine manager never took home a trophy while he was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur; instead, his first cup as a manager came after he was named head coach of Paris Saint-Germain.
He won the title, the Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions with Ligue 1. Now at Chelsea, he will have a chance to win his first trophy for a London club.
But given that we are playing Liverpool, who will be more inspired and hoping to give Jurgen Klopp the proper send-off after he revealed he would be leaving after the next season, things won’t be plain sailing.
Pochettino’s football career didn’t go as he expected. He played for Newell’s Old Boys, Espanyol, Paris Saint-Germain, Bordeaux, Espanyol, and (loaned) Espanyol. While he barely played for the national team, his career as a manager has been decent. He is the type of manager who needs time to implement his system.
Pochettino should be applauded for his efforts thus far because, when he took over, he was aware that he would be taking over a young team and that things might not go as planned. However, the 51-year-old has significantly changed things, and he will require the backing of the Wembley crowd today because his first season at Chelsea should be acknowledged for the accomplishments he has done.
