Jamie Carragher says he understands Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s substitutions
As the game progressed through to the final few minutes, it was very evident that Manchester City made desperate pushes to get that equaliser against Chelsea. They eventually got the better of the Blues’ backline and the game ended 1-1 which could remain deemed as a fair result.
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino made some tough decisions in terms of substitutions. He got on Cesare Casadei and Trevoh Chalobah in the dying embers of the game, both for attackers, with the hope of seeing off a 1-0 result. However, the move did not yield any positive results as Rodri equalised late on to ensure that Manchester City kept their unbeaten home record intact.
Even though the substitution calls were controversial, they were understandable. Pochettino would understandably want to snatch maximum points from the best team in the country but not a lot of pundits were on the same process of thought as the Argentine tactician. Jamie Carragher was, and he said he saw where Poch’s decisions came from.

“When you’re winning and you make a defensive change, you’re leaving yourself open to it and if you don’t go on to win the game, people sort of have a go at you, but I could get where Poch was coming from.”

The performance, irrespective of the result was something Chelsea would be really really proud of. In spite of the injury issues and persistent problems with inconsistencies, the defensive prowess Chelsea showed was absolutely tremendous.
