Chelsea set to snap up Tottenham Hotspur’s backroom staff member currently on gardening leave

Tottenham Hotspur chief commercial director Todd Kline will join Chelsea

As per Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur chief commercial officer Todd Kline is on the verge of joining Chelsea after he resigned from the post and has been put on gardening leave by the club.

Once the exit is confirmed, Kline will join North London rivals Chelsea. Kline joined Spurs in 2021 and brought in plenty of lucrative deals, and one of them was with NFL team the Miami Dolphins with Hard Rock, worth a reported £180 million.

However, with the club failing to make enough revenue, the £1.2 billion stadium has been without a sponsor. But the club’s commercial profit has jumped by £30 million for the year ending June 2022 and could increase again when they confirm their recent financial profit by the end of this month.

The Blues appointment of Kline could be due to the naming rights of the stadium, which is set to be renovated by the club in the next few years. At this stage, the club has barely made a profit after their big signing last summer, and Todd Boehly will hope to bring in more sponsors.

Once Kline’s appointment is confirmed, he will become one of the prominent executives to join the club, alongside Chris Jurasek as chief executive from Clearlake Capital and Casper Stylsvig as chief revenue officer from AC Milan.

Kline will play a big part in the stadium, and it is currently being confirmed if we will build a new stadium or play at the same arena. What Kline has done at Tottenham can be seen as both positive and negative. The club is taking different measures to make a profit so we don’t breach FFP in the following summer.

But so far, Kline’s time at North London wasn’t seen as successful, and now his joining Chelsea won’t be viewed as a loss for Spurs. So his appointment will have mixed feelings, and hopefully, the owners won’t regret appointing him.
