Mauricio Pochettino feels Chelsea players suffered drop in energy after conceding to Wolves
Mauricio Pochettino explains the reason behind Chelsea and their defeat and says the club suffered a drop in energy and momentum when they conceded the goal against Wolves.
The Blues broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Moises Caicedo found Cole Palmer, who put the ball past Jose SA, but the visitors were quick to answer after Matheus Cunha’s deflected shot levelled the score.
The Wolves continued their goalscoring spree as Pedro Neto’s cross saw the Wolves player curl the ball, which took a slight Axel Disasi deflection, and the hosts went two goals down.
There was more to come when Malo Gusto impeded Cunha in the box and the referee awarded the Wolves penalties, and the Brazilian calmly slotted on the right side and completed his hat-trick.
Pochettino, who saw his side getting embarrassed from the dugout, spoke to a press conference and revealed why Chelsea lost, (h/t Football. London) saying:
“We didn’t start badly in the game. The way we conceded the first goal, the team suffered. We tried to build momentum and trust with the way we played. It was a difficult moment to manage after that. The energy dropped, and then it was a really difficult moment to manage. We concede the second goal, two own goals in the first half.”
You can see that we made a great deal of individual blunders when you look at their goals. The first goal for the Wolves came from catching Caciedo off guard, and the second goal was merited because they demonstrated teamwork. However, Disasi’s deflection cost us the third, and Gusto’s shoddy tackle of Cunha wrapped up the game.
We wouldn’t have lost another humiliating game if those deflections had not occurred, but this loss also proved that we were insufficient, unable to match Wolves’ intensity, and have lost our drive.

Losing is a part of any developing team. Lack of fight though is not something that’ll please Chelsea fans. It’s time the players and Pochettino take a good hard look at the mirror, and figure out if they want to wear the prestigious Blues badge or not.
