Europa League side unimpressed by Chelsea loanee, plan to send him packing in January

Galatasaray remain unconvinced by Chelsea loanee Hakim Ziyech

Chelsea loanee Hakim Ziyech never quite impressed at Stamford Bridge but could be on his way back should Galatasaray pull the trigger on his loan spell.

The Moroccan international joined the Turkish giants on a season long loan last summer. Despite being loaned for free, Galatasaray’s interest in ending their association early speaks volumes about the attacker’s success in the Super Lig. This is according to Turkish site NTV Spor.

Ziyech has made just 14 appearances for Galatasaray this season, scoring four times and assisting two more. While the numbers are not bad, his performances as a whole have been found wanting. Two of his goals also came against Manchester United, arguably strikes that might have been saved by a competent goalkeeper.

The 30-year-old has not just struggled to perform on the field but has also failed to stay fit for the duration of his stay in Turkey. His omission from the Super Cup tie appear to be the final straw with Galatasaray ready to cut their losses.

A return to Stamford Bridge will not help Chelsea given the players already at Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal. The Argentine has a bloated squad at his disposal and will not want out-of-favour names adding to those numbers. Given how hard Chelsea have tried to sell the Moroccan over the last few years, Ziyech is unlikely to have a future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has enough players to choose from.

As things stand, Ziyech has been named in the Moroccan squad that will take part in the AFCON this month. The 30-year-old will certainly make a case for himself if he goes on to make an impression for the Atlas Lions. Ziyech wowed spectators during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and channeling that same form could help him salvage his career at Galatasaray.

Ziyech’s stay at Stamford Bridge has been underwhelming and the move can be considered a failure by those at Chelsea. It is high time now that we cut our losses and move him on, even if it is for free.
