Arsenal tipped to rival Chelsea for Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande

Arsenal and Chelsea stand set to engage in a fierce bidding war in the upcoming summer transfer window, both eyeing Sporting CP defender Osumane Diomande. Although Sporting are not keen on selling key players in the current transfer window, the situation may change when June arrives.

A Bola report that Arsenal are closely monitoring Diomande during his international duty, while Chelsea have been keeping an eye on him for an extended period, with their interest still active. The Ivorian defender has been enjoying a splendid season at Sporting alongside Goncalo Inacio in central defence. Currently representing the Ivory Coast in the AFCON campaign, Diomande’s consistent performances at a young age make him an attractive prospect.

Chelsea are currently facing challenges across the pitch, particularly with players in the defensive line struggling to find form. Diomande, known for his reliability and consistency, could potentially bring the quality that the Blues are currently lacking. At just 20 years old, he has the potential to inject youth and skill into Chelsea’s backline.

On the other hand, Arsenal are in search of a long-term defensive partner for William Saliba. While Gabriel is a solid defender, he has shown occasional susceptibility to mistakes. Diomande, with a clean record in his early career, could be a promising solution for the Gunners. Additionally, Arsenal lack depth in the centre-back position, providing another reason to pursue a deal for a high-calibre defender like Diomande.

Do you mind a Diomande at Stamford Bridge?

While Diomande may not be considered a world-class centre-half yet, his youth and experience on the international stage with Ivory Coast make him an exciting prospect. At the age of 20, he has the potential to reach new heights in his career. At the Blues, he has the chance to replace someone like Thiago Silva in the long-term.

Ultimately, the decision on his future rests with him, but success appears to be a promising inevitability for this talented young defender as he’s shooting for the moon and aiming for the stars.

Arsenal’s interest could be a potential barrier to Chelsea’s interest in Ousmane Diomande.
