Arsenal icon urges Conor Gallagher to stay at Chelsea

Bacary Sagna urges Conor Gallagher to stay put at Chelsea amid exit links

As he continues to see himself linked with an exit this season, Chelsea star Conor Gallagher has been urged by former Arsenal man Bacary Sagna to stay put at Stamford Bridge.

It is not breaking news that the 23-year-old versatile midfielder has seen himself linked with a move to the likes of Newcastle United, West Ham United, and more importantly, Tottenham Hotspur.

In a struggling Chelsea side, Gallagher has been the best player by far and has captained the squad on numerous occasions in the absence of regular first-choice captain Reece James. To learn that Chelsea want to cash in on their best player for reinforcements in the form of other players is shocking news in itself.

On Gallagher, Speaking to Lord Ping via Football.London, here is what Bacary Sagna had to say:

“There is plenty of room for improvement, but he has been preforming well. I think he is maturing and has benefitted from the experience of playing regularly on loan. If I was Gallagher, I would resist a move and keep developing at Chelsea.

Sagna’s advice underlines the importance of continuity and development for young players like Gallagher. The midfielder has undergone significant growth, honing his skills during loan spells that have contributed to his current standout performances at Chelsea. Sagna’s endorsement of staying at Chelsea suggests that the midfielder’s development trajectory is best served by maintaining his current environment.

Gallagher’s maturity and consistent performances indicate a player who is not only adapting well to the demands of top-flight football but also contributing positively to the team’s dynamics; keep in mind a struggling one at that.

The mere idea that Chelsea should look to cash in on the player should be voided away. Let’s just get this straight. He is putting up Declan Rice-esque numbers in a Chelsea team that are struggling to stitch four passes together. Give him time, show patience with him, build your team around him and just have a look at the player he transforms into.

Chelsea will face a lot of stick if they sell Conor Gallagher who has been working his socks off in a dreadful team.

Other clubs would totally entertain the idea of Todd Boehly wanting to sell Gallagher. Despite Mauricio Pochettino showing a hell lot of confidence in the player, if Chelsea somehow does away with him, hit the nail on the head with the theory that the owners wanted someone else, and not the manager.

It is just the idea that foreign imports are better than homegrown players, especially the ones that have come up through the ranks from the academy. That is a very dumb idea. Just have a look at Liverpool. Nobody trusted Curtis Jones at Liverpool. His manager stuck by him, and this season, he has been one of their best players. Show some confidence in your academy players, and back them irrespective. They will live and die by the club.
