Chelsea increase their interest in signing Aaron Ramsdale

Chelsea have rekindled their interest in Arsenal’s out of favour of custodian Aaron Ramsdale after the injury to first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.

According to TalkSport, (h/t Mirror), the Blues could ramp up their interest in Arsenal reserve goalkeeper Ramsdale, who has lost his first-team spot to David Raya this season.

Sanchez hobbled off in a 2-0 defeat to Everton with a knee injury, and Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that the Spanish international is set to miss the entirety of the festive season.

For now, the Blues will rely on Major League Soccer goalie Dorde Petrovic, who is yet to make a full appearance since his signing. Against Sheffield United, it will be his big day.

Meanwhile, another goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, is on loan to Real Madrid and might make a permanent move to the Spanish capital. The Blues long-back earmarked Ramsdale but never made a move for the England international.

Injury to Sanchez could force the Blues’ hands into signing a goalkeeper this winter transfer window, and Ramsdale will be a great addition given he is a proven goalie with Premier League experience.

But, since Sanchez will only be out this month, they should wait to evaluate Petrovic’s performance. If he lives up to the criteria, we shouldn’t add a goalkeeper, as it will just cause needless chaos.

This season, Sanchez has been a huge improvement for us in goal. He will be missed until the end of December, at which point Petrovic must step up if he continues to play at a high level. If he does, Chelsea won’t need to acquire a new custodian.

Ramsdale is a great goalie, but he will need a first-team spot. If Pochettino can rotate both goalkeepers, then it’s a wise move; otherwise, we should stick with Sanchez and Petrovic.
