Journalist labels South American superstar as one of Chelsea’s ‘best signings’ in recent times

Journalist Paul Brown describes Chelsea signing of Thiago Silva as one of the best acquisitions in recent times

Journalist Paul Brown has defined Thiago Silva’s acquisition by Chelsea as one of the best signings in recent times. The seasoned defender has simply become an invaluable acquisition for us and has cemented himself as one of Chelsea’s finest centre-backs.

At 39, Silva has continued to be a regular starter at Chelsea. The former AC Milan centre-back joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain when he was 36, and his signing raised eyebrows as to why the Blues signed an ageing player.

However, the Brazilian acclimatisation to English football was quick, and he etched himself as an important centre-back at the club. The 39-year-old was instrumental in leading the Blues to the Champions League in the 2020–21 season.

Silva is only getting better despite ageing but the Blues soon will have to find a replacement as the centre-back will reach 40 next year. Journalist Paul Brown has given his thoughts on Chelsea’s signing of Silva in the late 30s, as he told GIVEMESPORT:

“There aren’t that many leaders left at Chelsea, and I think when people look back on his time at the club, it won’t be remembered as a massively trophy-laden spell because of the way the last few months have gone. But I do think that when people look back, they will look at him and think that he was one of their best signings of recent times. I think he’s been incredibly important for them.”

Silva’s time at Chelsea will be remembered fondly, despite the fact that he joined at the age of 35. It’s been here for three years and has remained a regular starter for us, which is a massive thing for him given that players his age usually retire from playing in overseas leagues, which are less demanding. Seeing the Brazilian centre-back start every game this season is commendable and he will continue to remain imperative for us.

Silva has won Champions League with Chelsea, which he failed to do at PSG despite reaching the final in 2019-20 with them, but in his first season at Chelsea, he won the coveted silverware and hopefully, we will bid him farewell this season with a trophy if he decides to leave next summer.
