Journalist Dean Jones has shed light on Chelsea and their pursuit of Brentford’s star striker, Ivan Toney. The talented striker has expressed a keen interest in joining the West London club, adding a glimmer of optimism to the transfer saga.
However, Chelsea face stiff competition in their bid to secure Ivan Toney‘s services. Arsenal, another Premier League giant, are closely monitoring the situation at Brentford, making it clear that they are also in the race for the striker. It’s worth noting that Toney is currently serving a suspension for breaching betting rules, a situation that has temporarily put his Premier League aspirations on hold.
Although Toney has resumed training, he won’t be eligible to play in Premier League matches until January when his ban is lifted. This uncertainty surrounding his future at suggest that his days as a Brentford striker may be numbered.
The former Newcastle hitman has made his feelings clear and is looking for a move in the winter transfer window, and it is understood that the Bees are seeking £80 million for the centre-forward.
However, the Gunners might reconsider their pursuit, as they reportedly believe Toney’s price tag is excessively high. This could potentially pave the way for Chelsea to secure his signature, unopposed. Speaking about the situation, here is what Jones had to say
“Brentford has been great for him, but he knows that he’s capable of playing somewhere bigger than that. So, I think that Chelsea is clearly a club that has an interest in him, and I think that he’s interested in that too. I’d say there’s probably the highest chance of it happening as we stand right now.”
For a gifted striker like Ivan Toney, the pursuit of a club where he can contend for trophies makes perfect sense. Chelsea have consistently been in the mix for silverware season after season except for the last 18 months, and under new ownership, they are on a promising path of resurgence.
The 27-year-old striker would have the privilege of playing alongside talents like Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer, and Christopher Nkunku. This partnership could propel him to challenge the likes of Erling Haaland for the Premier League’s top scorer title. Let’s wait and see if we manage to get him.
