Report: Chelsea hold the edge when it comes to January pursuit of PL striker

Chelsea make Ivan Toney their January transfer target to address goalscoring woes

Chelsea seems to have an advantage in the signing of Ivan Toney, who has changed agents to CAA Stellar, with whom the Blues have a strong relationship. According to TeamTalk, (h/t Express) Chelsea’s relationship with CAA has helped them land Infinite Athlete to become their shirt sponsor recently.

Robert Sanchez and Ben Chilwell are among the players represented by the agency, which has also aided the club in plenty of transfers of fringe players to Saudi Pro League clubs. Clearly both sides have an excellent working relationship.

The former Newcastle United striker signed with the agency in hopes of leaving the Bees sooner, as he currently serves a ban for the next few months. Thomas Frank is aware of the situation and has already sounded out a £50 million price tag for their star centre-forward.

Now they can once again benefit the agency with the acquisition of the Brentford striker. The Blues’ inefficiency in front of goal has been evident this season, scoring just seven goals in as many Premier League games.

The Blues have also targeted Victor Osimhen in January, but his availability remains doubtful, which could make the West Londoners switch their focus to Toney. The 27-year-old is well experienced in the Premier League and can make an instant impact at Stamford Bridge.

If so, we would have a head start on getting Ivan Toney because it might see negotiations progress easily. The Brentford asking price is a respectable amount, and is well within the range of what we have splurged of late.

Toney is back in training and by the time his suspension is lifted in January, he will also be physically fit. Whether the Blues will make a move for him or wait until the following summer window for Osimhen depends.

Both of these strikers are outstanding, but the West Londoners will need to make a difficult choice if they want to sign a refined and productive striker. Since we have a lot of crucial games coming up in October, hopefully, Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja will shoulder the burden of scoring goals until then.
