Tottenham set to beat Chelsea to the signing of 16-year-old defensive prodigy

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on signing of Luka Vuskovic amid interest from Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur are nearing the completion of the signing of 16-year-old talented centre-back Luka Vuskovic from Croatian club Hajduk Split amid interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

As per Fabrizio Romano, (h/t Daily Mail), the teenager has agreed to join the North Londoners. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United were also keeping tabs on the centre-back, but the player has preferred to join Spurs. This is a coup of sorts given the teenager’s potential.

Manchester City also displayed interest in a 16-year-old who captained the U19 team to the final of the UEFA Youth League last season, besides senior team commitments. It is clear that the youngster is on the track to potential greatness.

His performance has seen clubs chase the teenager, who made 11 appearances in the Croatian top flight last season. Vuskovic led Hajduk to the Croatia Cup and became the youngest player to score a goal in the tournament.

However, Spurs are yet to finalise an agreement with the Croatian club, so it remains to be seen when the teenager will join Spurs. His addition will be another excellent move under new manager Ange Postecoglou. Vuskovic is one of the best young players in recent years to slip from our grasp.

Chelsea should not have a problem losing out on his recruitment because they have succeeded in a good job of acquiring young players, so losing out on one or two is fine. Hopefully, we won’t come to regret it in the future.

The Blues currently have several players, and their continued addition to the team will make Mauricio Pochettino’s task even more difficult given that the club should boast a mix of young and seasoned players. Our first-team defence is already stacked, so we currently don’t need a defender. It will be better for us to invest in a proven striker this time, as our perpetual problem scoring goals have been apparent this season as well.

Given Tottenham’s stellar start to the new season, Vuskovic could explode under the Australian boss. It remains to be seen if Todd Boehly will attempt another late swoop. It is not beyond his capability to do so.
