Chelsea were offered Manchester United outcast in failed summer swap deal

Manchester United were willing to loan Jadon Sancho to Chelsea for Marc Cucurella

Chelsea had a chance to sign Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho in a swap deal for Marc Cucurella. The Blues were looking to add another attacker before the summer window closed last week.

As per Fabrizio Romano, (h/t Express), United offered Sancho to Chelsea in a swap deal with Marc Cucurella, which later fell through as Erik ten Hag brought Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon on loan. Mauricio Pochettino did not make it any easier either, playing Cucurella in the League Cup, effectively cup-tying him should he move to Old Trafford.

But Chelsea never had a serious interest in signing the 23-year-old Sancho, as they showed more inclinations towards signing Manchester City forward Cole Palmer. As far as we are concerned, we have the player we wanted.

However, recently, Sancho and Ten Hag have had a cold war after the former Ajax Amsterdam manager didn’t include the winger in his squad in their 3-1 defeat to Arsenal last weekend. Ten Hag felt Sancho’s training wasn’t convincing enough to get him selected for the trip to the Emirates. Sancho was quick to reply to refute the Dutch manager’s comments and posted his rebuttal on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Chelsea were able to sign Palmer for £42.5 million on deadline day. But Sancho’s time might come to an end at United as his Ten Hag staff hasn’t been impressed by England’s international performance. These issues should be resolved privately and we can do without a player who likes to shoot his mouth off and stoke internal flames.

Chelsea signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City.

Adding Sancho to the team would have been more of an oversight given the player’s lacklustre performance at United since joining them. The 23-year-old has performed poorly for three different managers, which demonstrates how his performances have declined over time.

Since leaving Dortmund, his performance has been poor, and under Ten Hag, he hasn’t been a dependable starter. Palmer’s recruitment by Chelsea was a wise move because the 20-year-old has greater qualities and has displayed them in important matches like the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup. He will also have the opportunity to start every game for Chelsea, although this will mainly depend on his performance.
