Romeo Lavia’s troubles at Chelsea seem to have taken a new turn. The Belgian international signed for the Blues this summer for £58million.
There has been a lot of excitement surrounding his transfer especially because he was signed shortly after Moises Caicedo’s arrival. Two well-known midfielders being signed so close to each other in late August filled fans with hope.
Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s exits left us light in midfield but we did well to replenish the depth. But while Caicedo has settled in well and is starting games, Lavia is yet to play a single minute.
He has been training with the team but has been spotted in the stands in recent gameweeks watching his teammates in action. Now, it is being claimed that he has injured his ankle in training.
This is according to the Guardian, which claim that Chelsea are now awaiting the results of a scan conducted on Lavia after the recent injury.
Hopefully, the injury isn’t serious. The 19-year-old is still in his formative years and it is important he is fit and available to play as much as he can for us.
Moreover, this is a crucial time for him where he would have been looking to make an impression on Mauricio Pochettino if and when given the chance. Luckily for us, Conor Gallagher staying at Stamford Bridge means we have depth.
Gallagher, Enzo Fernandez and Caicedo are currently the first-team midfielders at Poch’s disposal. Hopefully, Lavia will be back in action soon. It has been a gloomy season for him so far in terms of playing time.
He did not play a single competitive game for Southampton after their relegation to the Premier League and he has yet to make his debut for Chelsea after joining us over Liverpool.
