West Ham United nearing agreement for Eredivisie ace on Chelsea transfer radar

West Ham United are close to an agreement to sign Chelsea target Mohammed Kudus

Premier League side West Ham United are now leading Chelsea and Arsenal in the race to sign Mohammed Kudus, as they are close to reaching an agreement with Ajax Amsterdam for the versatile attacker.

According to Athletic, (h/t Football.London) West Ham have made an offer of €41 million (£35 million) plus €3 million (£2.6 million) in add-ons. It will also include a 10 per cent sell-on clause, which now appears to have swung the deal in their favour.

The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea and Arsenal, but West Ham are on the verge of dethroning them to sign the talented forward. It would represent a significant coup for the Hammers.

It is understood that Ajax are expected to approve the offer after the Hammers agreed personal terms with Kudus, which will see the forward sign a five-year deal that includes the option for a sixth. Another Premier League side, Brighton & Hove Albion were in the running to sign Kudus, but the deal collapsed despite the Seagulls reaching an agreement with Ajax.

Kudus’s spectacular performance last season drew interest from big clubs, and his versatility will be very helpful to them as they will have the option to use him wherever in midfield in an attacking role. It would be an inspiring addition to the Hammers roster.

Kudus was a target for Chelsea, and now that the Hammers are so close to acquiring him, we are at risk of losing this race. It will be a major loss because of what he offers to the club and how much he would have improved the team.

Given that the team is trying to recruit an attacking player after Christopher Nkunku’s injury, Kudus might have been a perfect option because of his prolific performance and versatility.

He could have made a better decision by joining Chelsea and become part of a potentially great side being put together by Mauricio Pochettino. However, it would now appear that we have to look elsewhere.
