Chelsea did not deserve just a point after an excellent performance against Liverpool, claims Mauricio Pochettino
Speaking to the media after the game (quoted by BBC Live), Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino felt that his team did enough to deserve more than a draw against Liverpool.
In an entertaining game at Stamford Bridge that ended 1-1, Chelsea showed great character to come from a goal down in the first half before dominating the second half. Had they been more clinical in the final third, there was an argument to be had that three points was deserved.
To be fair though, the same thing can be said about the away side who started the game and kept on having moments that caused a lot of issues to the Blues back line.’
Pochettino thought otherwise and said his team deserved more than a draw. Here’s what the Argentine said:
“I don’t believe it is [if draw was a fair result]. I think we deserved a little bit more overall. We feel pleased, but at the same time disappointed because we wanted to win and we deserved to win, but it is only the beginning.
“We have created a very good way to work here and that is important. It is about belief and about work and to trust each other. The connection from day one has been fantastic.”
After the opening 25 minutes where Liverpool dominated the game and carved through Chelsea’s midfield at will, the response and owning the football after that was great to see.
For a team that was without a few star players playing, its first game under a new manager after a horrendous last season, there were plenty of encouraging signs for everyone to look at.
The use of Ben Chilwell almost a left winger, leaving Levi Colwill one-on-one against Mohamed Salah was a risky tactic, but it worked because Trent Alexander-Arnold does not bomb forward in wide areas anymore. Hence, Chelsea needed an extra body in midfield to combat the latter’s threat on the ball.
We came close to winning the game in the 94th minute but Mykhaylo Mudryk was unlucky not to make anything happen despite rounding Alisson Becker. It could have been the goal we deserved.

Tactically, Pochettino got most things right. For that reason, Blues fans should be happy with the start and expect a lot from this team under this manager in the coming weeks and months. With no European football, Chelsea have a chance of doing very well in the league this season.
