Manchester United submit £2.5m loan bid for Chelsea defensive star

Manchester United earmark Marc Cucurella as a short-term replacement for the injured Luke Shaw

According to Daily Mail, Manchester United have made their initial loan bid in the region of £2.5 million for Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella after agreeing personal terms with the player.

Both clubs are in talks to agree a deal, with Chelsea hoping to get a £5 million loan fee for the Spanish international. United are desperate to find a backup for Luke Shaw, who is set to spend the immediate future on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia, who is Shaw’s backup, has also been injured, leaving United with only Alvaro Fernandez as the club’s last option. Due to a lack of senior left-back options, Erik ten Hag had to play Diogo Dalot on the left flank in their 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last week. The Portuguese international largely struggled to keep his composure in the unfamiliar role.

The 24-year-old has been an ideal candidate for Ten Hag, who feels he can easily suit the Dutchman’s system of play. However, there is a difference in United’s fee, as Chelsea are hoping to gain £5 million from his loan.

The Red Devils are only offering £2.5m which could make a difference, but it remains to be seen if Chelsea will be able to convince United to increase their bid. After all we know that Ten Hag and Co are currently desperate.

Given that the left-back will be leaving on a season-long loan, £2.5 million seems too little for the player, and we can try to make United pay more. Cucurella still has a lot to offer, and Ten Hag believes the Spanish player can easily fit into his system at United.

Despite his terrible performance last season, Cucurella still has a lot to contribute. He could get regular playing time at Old Trafford, something that is not easy to come by at Chelsea. A solid showing out on loan could resurrect his Chelsea career or also allow the Blues to sell him off to other parties with ease next summer.

If Cucurella performs satisfactorily for Untied during the current season, given that there is no commitment to purchase. We can anticipate a more mature Cucurella next year. We see him thrive under Ten Hag since he is only 24 and has the potential to be a top left-back.
