Chelsea outcast seals loan switch to Galatasaray

Hakim Ziyech has signed for Galatasaray from Chelsea on a season-long loan

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have agreed to sell Hakim Ziyech to Galatasaray on a season-long loan with an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

The Turkish side paid £3 million to acquire the services of the winger and will later pay £2.4 million if they want to keep the Moroccan beyond this season. While it is peanuts, the Blues will be glad to finally have got the Moroccan off their books.

The former Ajax Amsterdam forward was in the stands when Galatasaray beat Trabzonspor 2-0 and the supporters promptly broke out a chat for him. He will join the likes of Mauro Icardi and Wilfried Zaha in forming a formidable frontline.

The 30-year-old endured failed transfers first in January and later in the summer window. He was on the verge of moving to Paris Saint-Germain last January, but his move collapsed. This summer his transfer to Saudi Arabia failed to materialise after he failed to pass a medical test.

Ziyech could depart the West Londoners for good if he impresses this season at the Turkish side. He joined the Blues in 2020 and had a negligible impact. The Moroccan starred in 104 appearances and registered 14 goals and 13 assists. The West Londoners have done excellent work in offloading many marginal players before the conclusion of the transfer window and garnered a great amount of sales from their departure.

Ziyech should benefit a lot by moving to Galatasaray, who have done an outstanding job of acquiring elite European players. The 30-year-old will fit nicely alongside Zaha and Icardi in the forward line and provide fantastic attacking impetus to the team. There will be less competition than at Chelsea, where many outstanding young talents have been signed, so he will also have the opportunity to resurrect his career there.

The Blues deserve praise for promptly offloading a large number of unwanted players and cutting their too-large roster. Lukaku is the only player we still need to sell after we’ve sold all of the unwanted guys. Let’s hope we find a club before the transfer window closes.
