Romeo Lavia ‘decides’ on next club amid Liverpool and Chelsea links

Fabrizio Romano confirms Romeo Lavia is choosing Chelsea over Liverpool

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed Southampton’s Romeo Lavia is preferring a transfer to Chelsea over Liverpool, as the Blues are set to offer a £50 million fixed fee plus add-ons.

He also revealed the West Londoners want the deal to be completed on Tuesday after Chelsea finally unveiled Moises Caicedo as their new signing on Monday.

Now the Blues are set to beat Liverpool once again for the signing of the Southampton midfielder. The Reds submitted £60m for the midfielder as they agreed terms with the Saints but have failed to honour each personal agreement with the 19-year-old.

Now Chelsea are confident enough to sign Lavia, who is choosing the West Londoners over the Anfield side. They have reached an agreement with the Championship side but are yet to pay £50 million plus add-ons.

Todd Boehly kept up Chelsea’s tremendous spending, and after they sign the Belgian midfielder, their expenditure under Clarke Capital will reach £900 million. That is a heavy investment in the team’s future but one that is now seeing proper Premier League-experienced players sign for us.

However, despite frequent signings, the club has also offloaded 13 players this summer, with Kepa Arrizabalaga also going out on loan to Real Madrid. It is a good way to balance the books, apart from also offering long-term deals to the newly-signed youngsters.

We are now on the verge of signing one of the best defensive midfielders on the land in his age bracket, and this is a massive improvement for our starting XI.

Much credit goes to our backroom staff, who have managed to land Caicedo and have somehow convinced Lavia to join the team too. Both are top midfielders with Premier League experience and will significantly enhance our midfield, allowing Enzo Fernandez to play at his full capacity as a No. 8.

One of Caicedo or Lavia may have to be benched, though, given the duo, along with Enzo are defensive-minded midfielders. Given the Belgium international’s young age and relatively less Premier League experience, one can count on him being the third-choice central midfielder this season — if he joins us, that is.

It is also brilliant from the club to retain their pull in the market despite finishing 12th in the league last summer.
