Chelsea suffer another injury block as centre-back faces one month out

Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah ruled out for a month with hamstring injury

Chelsea have been hit with another injury setback as Trevoh Chalobah has sustained a hamstring injury, which will see him sidelined alongside skipper Reece James for the immediate few weeks.

According to Athletic, (h/t Daily Mail) the centre-back sustained a minor hamstring problem, but the issue seems to have aggravated during training. He is now likely to sit out for a month or so, potentially even hampering the chances of securing a move away before the transfer window shuts.

James has also picked up a hamstring injury after the right-back was substituted in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool. The right-back missed an ample number of games last season due to a knee injury and now faces the same problem this campaign as well.

Meanwhile, Chalobah did not participate in Chelsea’s Sunday game and now could be out for a month. Luckily, the Blues have enough options in their centre-back area. While the youngster isn’t exactly a starter for the club, his absence will limit the options made available to Mauricio Pochettino. The 23-year-old has been linked with an exit as Inter Milan are interested in signing Chelsea’s academy player and the Blues are open to selling him. But now the centre-back could miss a month of action due to injury.

Chalobah has been pushed down the pecking order and he is now behind Wesely Fofana, Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, and Benoit Badiashile. A move for him would be suitable to get good game time, but that is now unlikely to happen, at least in the coming weeks.

James and Chalobah’s injuries came as terrible news for Chelsea yesterday, but we have many choices at centre-back, so Chalobah’s absence won’t be noticed too heavily. James would, however, undoubtedly suffer if he sustained another injury. Malo Gusto is available as a backup, but the right-back, who had a season marred by injuries last term, will undoubtedly be frustrated.

Chalobah, on the other hand, will be hoping to recuperate, and it is still unclear if he will be at the club this season given that Chelsea might trade him. Either way, the injury could not have happened to him at a worse time.
