‘Very happy’ Axel Disasi says Chelsea teammate predicted he will score vs Liverpool

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi happy to score on his debut and felt that they deserved to win

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi is delighted about scoring on his club debut and claimed that the team deserved to beat Liverpool after an encouraging performance.

Following a good start by the away team, they took the lead through Luis Diaz after an exceptional pass by Mohamed Salah. Chelsea hit back minutes later from a second phase of the corner when Ben Chilwill picked out Disasi in the box who scuffed his finish but did enough to hit the back of the net.

Since scoring the equaliser just after the 30-minute mark, Mauricio Pochettino’s team dominated the game till the 75th minute. They had chances to score more goals but the final ball or the finish was missing.

Here’s what Disasi said about scoring on debut and deserving more out of this game (h/t BBC Live):

“Chilly [Ben Chilwell] yesterday he told me that I will score today so I’m very happy, very proud of the team because in the second half we played good football and I think we deserved to win. It is good for the future.

“I like to stay in the box when we attack. Today I have the chance to score so it’s good for me and the team so I hope in future I will score lots of goals.”

While the whole world expected Pochettino to play the 4-2-3-1 system, he changed things up and went with a 3-4-3 formation. Disasi played as a right-sided centre-back behind the marauding Reece James.

Apart from a few nervous moments, especially in the first half, the former Monaco defender settled in well and started commanding his area. He showed his quality on the ball and was physically robust.

It won’t be an overstatement to say that we will see a lot more of the 25-year-old in the coming weeks, months and years. He looks like a complete defender who is entering the peak years of his career in that position.

One can expect Pochettino to iron out his deficiencies in due course and make him partner Levi Colwill in central defence. As of now, the experienced Thiago Silva is there between them to calm things down and mop up any dangers while playing as a sweeper.
