PSG are pushing to beat Chelsea to in-demand La Liga sensation

PSG are pushing for the signing of Chelsea target Gabri Veiga

As per the Guardian, French champions PSG have intensified their pursuit of Spanish talent Gabri Veiga despite interest from Premier League clubs, including Chelsea.

The youngster’s performance has been on the radar of many clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester United also showing interest in signing the 21-year-old. The Blues see him as a Mason Mount replacement, with the Englishman set to join the Red Devils this summer.

Now Paris Saint-Germain are pushing for his signing and could land themselves a potential future. Should they prove successful, it will be the second time that the Ligue 1 giants will have gotten the better of us, having trumped us to signing Manuel Ugarte earlier this summer.

The Celta de Vigo midfielder has a €40 million (£34.4 million) release clause, which shouldn’t be a problem to trigger for the abovementioned club. PSG’s history of luring players through their strong financial position could be a problem for other clubs including Chelsea.

Chelsea have already sold prominent midfielders such as Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante this summer. With Mount on the verge of joining United, strengthening our midfield is important and a priority this summer.

So far, the West Londoner’s main priority has been Moises Caicedo, and they are intensifying talks with Brighton, Hove Albion, and Tottenham to land the 21-year-old. However, the Ecuadorian alone will not solve our problems.

Veiga fits the criteria for the West Londoners as an attacking midfielder, but they also require a defensive midfielder. Should PSG ramp up their efforts, we will need to make a decision sooner rather than later.

We’ve seen what PSG have done with Ugarte, and they could repeat the trick with Veiga. However, it will depend on the player’s choice because, at PSG, he might be able to win titles but struggle for regular playtime. New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has an affinity to develop youth talent and it could benefit Veiga in the long term.

We have several promising young players, and whether Veiga will join that list remains to be seen. However, it won’t be easy with the Spaniard flush with several options on his table.
