Marseille are interested in signing fringe Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

As per a Twitter video from Sky Sports News, French side Marseille are interested in signing out-of-favour Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.

It is also revealed that a formal offer from Marseille is expected to come very soon. Aubameyang is all but confirmed to leave Chelsea in this transfer window.

A couple of days ago, Fabrizio Romano tweeted that the Blues are insistent on selling the former Gabon striker to a club in Saudi Arabia. The latest on it is that the player will join the pre-season tour on Monday. Chelsea’s preference on selling him for a fee, combined with his high wages is becoming a stumbling block for clubs interested in getting this deal done.

It remains to be seen what sort of offer Marseille comes up with. Chelsea do not have much time to drag this situation around and accept anything that is closer to their valuation of the striker.

Aubameyang was signed by the Blues late in the summer window a year ago. The former Arsenal marksman has been anonymous in a blue shirt since. Even when he has started big games, the input has been underwhelming, to say the least.

Moreover, he is 34 now. This isn’t the time to offer him another chance and hope that he will turn up. Keeping him is anyway not a long-term solution to the team’s centre-forward issues.

Let’s hope the striker is off the Chelsea books very soon. It might allow them the room to push hard for a new number nine in the coming days. They have to do that, or else Mauricio Pochettino would have a big job in his hands to make the team score goals and spread them around.

As for Auba, this could be a chance to make the most out of his last few years as a footballer at a team where the spotlight won’t be blinding. It offers him a chance to return to France, where he was pretty successful with AS Saint-Etienne.
