Liverpool exit race for PL midfielder as they believe Chelsea will sign him

Liverpool are not interested in Moises Caicedo as Chelsea close in on the Ecuadorian

As per the Telegraph (subscription required), Liverpool won’t pursue a deal for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo as they believe Chelsea are close to signing him.

The Reds are in the market for a defensive midfielder because Fabinho is set to leave the club to play for Saudi side Al-Ittihad. Earlier in the day, Liverpool Echo revealed that they could join the race to sign Caicedo if both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson leave.

That rumour has been put to bed by the latest report from the Telegraph. It seems like everyone in the business knows that the Ecuador international will join Chelsea any time soon.

Personal terms are not an issue because the Brighton midfielder has already said yes to a move to Stamford Bridge. It is up to the Blues to strike a deal with the Seagulls.

Good news for Chelsea

Although it has been clear for some time that Chelsea will sign Caicedo, Liverpool’s emergence in the market for a player of the same type might have been concerning for the club.

With that put to bed, the Blues can focus back on completing this deal soon. The pre-season has started and key players need to be with the squad for as long as possible during these preparation times.

Striking a deal with Brighton is never easy. It would be great if the club does not stick to their price tag of the player. Instead, be ready to negotiate because this deal is important for the team, especially after the exits of Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino does not have a lot of options in midfield after a foray of departures from that departure this summer. Caicedo has to be signed to give Enzo Fernandez a partner in central midfield. Once that is forged, the manager can build the rest of the team around them.
