Juventus make €40m offer to sign exit-linked Chelsea star

Juventus make a bid to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku

As per a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have made a €37.5m plus €2.5m bid to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku during this transfer window.

It is also revealed that the Blues are eager to sell the Belgian international before August. They are also not in the race to sign Dusan Vlahovic from the Old Lady.

Until very recently, Lukaku was a major target for fellow Italian side Inter Milan. But, the Nerazzurri became unhappy that the player held talks with Juventus while the negotiations were going on. They are now out of the race for him.

While Lukaku leaving the club is nothing new, it is interesting to know that they are looking to sign Vlahovic as a direct replacement in the number nine position. Not that the former had any impact at Stamford Bridge in the season he was here.

Chelsea have signed Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku this summer. The former is a young striker with only one season in senior football behind him. The latter is more of a support striker/attacking midfielder who can operate as a false nine.

We know how difficult it has been for the Blues to score goals due to the lack of a quality centre-forward. Lukaku will be gone soon, the same would be the case with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz has already left for Arsenal.

The question is – who will lead the Chelsea line next season? Does Mauricio Pochettino have a plan in place or is he waiting to sign someone in the market?

If they are waiting for one, who is that player? The club must also act quicker because it would help no one if transfer deals are left to linger till the start of the season.

Juve’s offer doesn’t seem overly bad. Of course, the Blues should look to test how much more they can offer, but otherwise, it wouldn’t be the worst decision to take it and try to forget that we ever resigned the Belgian.
