Journo reveals that Chelsea and PL rivals are currently in talks for South American midfield ace

Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea and Brighton are now progressing in talks for Moises Caicedo

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion are now ‘moving forward’ in talks as both clubs are currently discussing the fee for Moises Caicedo.

Brighton have already told Chelsea that £70 million is not enough, but the deal will 100% also include add-ons as the Blues continue their pursuit of Caicedo. The Ecuadorian is one of the best young midfielders in the league and will add a new dimension to the Blues’ options in the middle of the park.

In a recent interview, the 21-year-old made it apparent that he wants to join Chelsea. Despite being keen to make the switch, so far it has proved difficult for the Blues to sign him.

Brighton’s asking price for the midfielder continues to be a sticking point, although negotiations between the two clubs are still ongoing. However, Caicedo will participate in pre-season with Brighton showing his professionalism as a footballer.

The Ecuadorian wanted to leave the club in January when Arsenal came knocking, but the Seagulls blocked the move. The 21-year-old then went on to pen a new deal with Brighton. Hopefully, there is enough goodwill there that can work to our advantage this summer.

Chelsea certainly needs a defensive midfielder for next season after the departures of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho. Caicedo certainly fits the void and should form a long standing connection alongside Enzo Fernandez.

The midfielder has shown his talent at a young age and will only get better under Mauricio Pochettino. Brighton have every right to demand a fee that is on par with what we paid for Enzo Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk.

However, this time we will have to be careful with our spending as we have to comply with the Financial Fair Play rules. The need to be prudent this summer is more urgent than in recent times.

We cannot always spend a large sum on a player’s signing, but given the talks are moving forward, we can negotiate his fee and get him for a lesser amount than £100 million. Let’s hope that this agreement is signed before the new season begins so that Caicedo can become accustomed to the Chelsea culture and feel at home.
