Journo confirms Chelsea’s interest in 27-year-old Manchester City target

Christian Falk reveals Chelsea and Liverpool are interested in signing Benjamin Pavard

Christian Falk has confirmed Liverpool and Chelsea are in contact with Benjamin Pavard’s management as they might consider signing him from Bayern Munich.

The right-back has also been targeted by reigning Premier League Champions Manchester City, but according to Falk, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Barcelona have also expressed interest.

However, due to Barcelona’s financial problems, it will be complicated for them to land the French international, which implies that City, Chelsea, and Liverpool remain the only clubs who could compete for his signing.

The Blues currently have Reece James and Malo Gusto as their right-back options but Pavard’s beauty lies in his versatility and the fact that he is quite good defensively, allowing him to play as a centre-back as well.

James, meanwhile, suffered an injury scare during Chelsea’s training and has undergone a knee scan, the extent of which remains to be seen. If it’s serious, then the Blues may have to look for another right-back for the upcoming season.

Now Falk has updated about the 27-year-old’s situation and told about the Blues’ interest in the 2018 World Cup winner. Speaking to Give Me Sport, he confirmed:

“Chelsea are always in talks with his management; Liverpool are in talks with his management; Barcelona are as well, but Barcelona don’t have the money at the moment. They would like to have him as a free agent.”

Pavard would be a great addition to the right-back area if the Blues manage to sign him, but they face competition from Liverpool and Manchester City. The Reds could use some quality addition in central defence while Man City could launch an offensive for him if Kyle Walker leaves.

He is 27 years old and has the necessary attributes to serve as a regular starter. Being a FIFA World Cup winner with France only adds to his aura.

Pavard, however, has signalled his desire to play as a centre-back, which is a factor to consider if we are chasing him as a right-back option primarily. Gusto, meanwhile, will be playing in his debut season in the English top-flight league and may find it challenging to settle down. There are way more pros than cons of signing the Bayern star in this regard.
