Chelsea inform 34-year-old star he is not required to return to training

Chelsea hope to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before next Monday and have informed him to not join the squad

As per a tweet from Matt Law of the Telegraph, Chelsea have informed striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to not join the squad on Wednesday with the hope to get him sold before next Monday.

The squad will fly to the USA for a pre-season tour on Monday. With not a lot of days remaining, the Blues must act quickly to get Aubameyang’s sale done.

A few days ago, it was revealed in the Daily Mail that new Al-Ettifaq boss Steven Gerrard is interested in signing the former Arsenal and Barcelona marksman this summer.

The 34-year-old had an underwhelming time at Stamford Bridge since arriving from Barcelona last summer. Although the situation at the club wasn’t easy with changing managers, he showed no desire to do well when asked to play and lead the line.

Moreover, he is at an age where he won’t be playing top-level football for a very long time. Hence, the combination of these factors tells us that Chelsea are doing the right thing by trying to sell him in the coming days.

The club should forget the price they would potentially get from this deal. The aim must be to offload the player from the wage books as soon as possible.

To be fair to the club, they have done an excellent job of selling the players they don’t want this summer at good prices. Saudi clubs generally overpay for players because they are trying hard to make a mark on the footballing map. So, it won’t be a surprise if they bid something crazy to get Aubameyang.

The task for Chelsea is to find a number nine who is experienced and can come in to solve the major issue in the team which is scoring goals at a consistent rate. Auba always seemed like a short-term solution.
