Chelsea have dropped their interest in PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe

According to French outlet L’Équipe, Chelsea and Manchester United have dropped their pursuit of PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe, whose transfer saga has once again hit the spotlight. The 24-year-old has not been included in Paris Saint-Germain squad for their pre-season tour to Japan.

PSG are looking for ways to offload the 24-year-old in the summer window, as they don’t want to lose him for free in 2024 once his contract ends. It is now or never as they find themselves in the midst of an uncomfortable saga.

Mbappe has emphasised that he wants to complete his contract but has made it clear that he has no interest in having it extended past 2024. This is not good news for the French champions and with just weeks left before the season starts, they have decisions to make.

The player has only expressed interest in joining Los Blancos but it is debatable if Real Madrid can fork out the cash required to land him this summer. However, it is also understood that PSG is considering loaning him out.

Meanwhile, Saudi side Al-Hilal have offered a world record fee of €300m (£259m) to the French superstar for only one year and will allow him to leave for Real Madrid for free next summer. For now, Mbappe has declined the offer and is ready to remain at PSG.

Although Chelsea would obviously love to sign the French attacker, doing so would be difficult due to his exorbitant salary and the fact that he would also desire to participate in the Champions League, which we cannot provide for the upcoming season. He is a quality player at the young age of 24, and everyone would compete for his services. His arrival can enhance a squad right away but the finances alone make it untenable.

Mbappe is a world-class player who can be a difference-maker for any team in world football. Signing him would undoubtedly be the feathering crown in Todd Boehly’s so far young reign at the club. It will also give us bragging rights and enhance our reputation as a club that can attract the best talents in world football.

Additionally, he made it obvious that there is only one team that wants to join, Real Madrid, so engaging in a bidding war is pointless. We are better off landing players who are keen to don the Blue jersey and are also makes financial sense.
