Chelsea ready to make a move for South American ace should he plot Ligue 1 exit

Chelsea are interested in signing Neymar if he opts to leave PSG

Chelsea will make an offer for Neymar if he decides to leave PSG this summer transfer window, as Blues’ owner Todd Boehly is a big admirer of the Brazilian forward.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, (h/t Football.London) Chelsea have long been interested in signing the former Barcelona star and will make a move only if he decides to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Rather than buying him on loan, the Blues are keen to make a permanent deal for the Brazilian. The 31-year-old has two years left on his contract at the Parc Des Princes and is open to a new challenge, should it materialise.

The Brazilian forward also faced fans unrest as club supporters protested in front of his home in Paris, demanding his exit from PSG. The Ligue 1 giants are open to a deal and this could work in Chelsea’s favour.

The former Santos forward has a value of £51 million ($65 million). This represents a steep fall from the recorded fee that the French giants paid Barcelona for his services. While Neymar is not exactly young anymore, he still ahs a few years at the top left in his locker.

The French champions are revamping their squad as they look to make a competitive team that can win the UEFA Champions League. They have also appointed Luis Enrique, who was one of the frontrunners to become Chelsea manager earlier.

Chelsea already has a large number of attackers, but the lack of experience is apparent. The likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku, and Noni Madueke among others could learn much from sharing the field with Neymar. Also being able to land him sands Champions League football would be a flex.

As a result of his injury history and inconsistent performance in games, Neymar has other drawbacks that could work against his favour. He will also expect a large salary which might not be in our best interests given the lack of Champions League football. While signing Neymar will be a statement, Chelsea are better off opting for someone younger who is also less controversial.
