Chelsea ace keen to stay and fight as summer reshuffle beckons

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah wants to stay at the club and fight for his place amidst Inter Milan interest

As per a report from the Athletic (subscription required), Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah wants to stay at the club and fight for his place in the team despite interest from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Although Chelsea are desperate to sell players to lighten up their bloated squad and Chalobah could have been on the selling list because of Inter’s interest, the player is keen to meet the new manager Mauricio Pochettino and know his status in the squad before deciding on the future.

With no European football for the Blues next season, combined with the fact Pochettino likes to play four at the back, it means that the club can sell a couple of centre-backs this summer.

The report reveals that they are adamant to not let Levi Colwill go and offer him a place in the team instead. Brighton and Hove Albion, a club where Colwill spent this season on loan, made an offer to sign him permanently. Chelsea rejected that offer immediately.

Coming back to Chalobah, the good thing about him is that he is comfortable operating as a centre-back and right-back. He can also be played and moulded as a defensive midfielder as well. So, if Pochettino wants a versatile defender in his squad, the 23-year-old can be that.

Chalobah’s current contract at Stamford Bridge runs until the summer of 2028, having signed a new deal last November. He is a young player with loads of potential.

If Pochettino wants a fresh and young team to go out there and showcase their talent next season, Chalobah should be a part of his plans. The 23-year-old’s versatility and quality can be used in the right way by the Argentine. Moreover, the former Tottenham boss has that in him to get the best out of the top young players.
