Chelsea midfielder gives green light to complete Serie A transfer this summer

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek approves his move to AC Milan this summer

As per Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Football.London), Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has given the green light to his move to AC Milan during the coming summer transfer window.

The report reveals that Chelsea have set an asking price of £22m to let the England international leave this summer. As of now, Milan are willing to pay only up to £17.2m.

The Italian giants have tabled an opening offer of £12.9m plus add-ons to sign the 27-year-old, but the Blues would want more as Todd Boehly aims to provide new manager Mauricio Pochettino with enough funds to sign key players in the window.

One can understand why Loftus-Cheek approves the move away from Chelsea. Despite being a youth product of the club and rising up the ranks, the Englishman has struggled for regular game time in the first team.

He spent seasons on loan at Fulham and Crystal Palace to gain valuable experience, yet it was not enough for him to become a key player in the Blues squad.

If we talk about this season, Loftus-Cheek played only 1912 minutes in all competitions. That should not be enough for a player who is 27 now and has entered the peak stage of his footballing career.

Milan recently lost their key midfielder Ismael Bennacer to injury till the end of this calendar year. So, it makes sense why they are vying to sign the Chelsea midfielder before the start of next season.

If this is to be the end of the Englishman’s career at Stamford Bridge, it would feel like a promise unfulfilled. He was going up the ranks here with the potential to become the future of Chelsea’s midfield. That didn’t happen, an incident for which he isn’t solely responsible.
