Manchester City set timeline on when they want to sign Chelsea star

Manchester City aim to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic by the end of June

As per Evening Standard, Manchester City are hoping to complete the signing of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic before the end of June.

The deal will be done with a transfer fee of around £35m. The player is ready to accept the offer City and Chelsea are ready to offload him this summer, knowing that his contract expires next year.

The former Real Madrid midfielder was a key figure in the Blues midfield for the past few years. His energy, drive, passing accuracy and high work rate were some of the things we associated him with.

If he stays fit and plays regularly under Pep Guardiola, we could see him do well for the Premier League and European champions. The danger is that he becomes an even better player at City than he already was at Chelsea. When that happens, selling him to a direct rival in the league won’t make much of a sense.

For now, we cannot do much and hope Kovacic has a good career in Manchester because he was a great servant of Chelsea football club. He was someone who wouldn’t throw the toys of the pram to get his wish fulfilled. He was, in short, a proper team player.

For a dressing room to stay sane, players like these come in handy. Hence, Chelsea are not just losing a great player, but also an excellent foil for others in the squad.

The other hope is that the Blues make good use of the money they will get from the Kovacic sale. It won’t be wrong to say that we might expect a few more outgoings before the club starts to make inroads in the market. Slimming the bloated squad is as important as adding good players for this summer window.
