Journo sheds light on Chelsea’s chances of signing PSG’s Kylian Mbappe

Report reveals Chelsea’s chances of signing Kylian Mbappe from PSG

Sources at Chelsea have cooled talk of the club making a potential move for Paris-Saint Germain (PSG) superstar Kylian Mbappe, as per Jason Burt of the Telegraph (Subscription Required).

The French striker has left PSG stunned with a letter claiming that he doesn’t wish to renew his deal beyond the summer of 2024. Les Parisiens will now have to reluctantly put him up for sale this summer to avoid losing him for free next year.

There is anticipation of interest from the Premier League but an excerpt from the aforementioned article reads:

“There is an anticipation that there will be interest from Premier League clubs but sources at Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Liverpool have cooled talk of a move.”

The three aforementioned clubs are among the richest in England. Manchester City’s financial clout and Newcastle’s newfound wealth under Saudi Arabian owners make them strong competitors.

Mbappe to Chelsea?

Chelsea, meanwhile, have already spent a lot under Todd Boehly. Around £323.3million (!) in January alone and nearly £600million in the past two windows combined. We now have a hugely bloated squad that needs cutting down.

But having Mbappe on the market is an opportunity that we cannot pass up on. We had the cash to sign Enzo Fernandez for £106.8million in January.

Why can’t we cough up the money for Mbappe? Surely the owners had enough vision to realise they would have to spend big money in the summer if they wanted a world-class No. 9?

If you sign Mbappe, who is still just 24 years old, you are set for many years to come. He guarantees goals and at his young age, is the captain of France – with whom he has already reached two FIFA World Cup finals.

We must start the process of cutting down the squad and raising cash. That will also free up space on the wage bill. Once we do that, going after Mbappe will be something no Chelsea fan would be against. We will, however, have to battle Real Madrid – who are termed as the favourites to sign their long-term target.
