World Cup-winning striker ready to link up with Pochettino at Chelsea

Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez keen to link up with Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea

According to The Express, Inter Milan superstar Lautaro Martinez is keen to move to Chelsea to link up with countryman Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine international was part of the squad that lifted the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year and is among the best striker in the Italian top flight. A consistent goalscorer for the Nerazzurri, Martinez is adept at the highest level and is ready to take the next step in his career.

Simone Inzaghi’s men made it to the final of the UEFA Champions League last season but were unable to get the better of Manchester City in the showpiece event. Certain players stood out and it can be argued that Martinez is among the best of the lot.

A summer revamp appears to be the order at the Giuseppe Meazza. Marcelo Brozovic is linked with a move to the middle east while Andre Onana continues to attract attention from Manchester United and Chelsea. However, the most significant difference could occur in their forward line.

Edin Dzeko has already left while Romelu Lukaku is set to return to Stamford Bridge at least for the time being. Also losing Martinez will leave them with just Joaquin Correa as a senior striker, largely denting their prowess upfront.

With the player now keen to move to Stamford Bridge, a lot could depend on how Chelsea approach the matter. With Kai Havertz set to join Arsenal, the Blues could do with another attacker, preferably someone who is a better goalscorer.

Martinez certainly ticks the box and is a better goal-getter than the Emirates-bound man. While Inter would be wary of the mass cull in the striking department, we could make it easier for them by offering Lukaku in exchange.

The Belgian is not keen to move to the middle east and is keen to continue playing in Europe. He is partial towards returning to Inter and this could very well aid us in our efforts to land Martinez.

At 25, Martinez is just entering his prime and is already a well-experienced player. Alongside Christopher Nkunku, he will certainly add much dynamism to the Blues’ forward line. Having struggled to score goals last season, Chelsea will certainly benefit should the Argentine move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
